First HiH students in Canada – ht.no

– We study tourism. Of course, we must then go out and discover the world, they say.

Ina and Ingrid are only waiting for visas from the Canadian embassy in London.

– We will spend the entire spring semester in Canada. It starts on January 5th, so we plan to travel just before the New Year, they say.

The girls go to Prince George, a city in the west of the country the size of Tromsø.

The dream becomes reality

The second year students of the college will take the nature-based tourism management course at the city university. The credits will be included as part of the Bachelor of Tourism degree they will take at Harstad University College.

For Ina, it’s a dream come true.

– I always wanted to go to Canada and decided to study there. In fact, I was ready to interrupt my studies, find a school on my own, and start again.

– I spoke about it to the international coordinator of HiH, Sigrid Ag. She asked me to wait a bit, because she saw that the college was surprisingly in the process of establishing a partnership agreement with a university in Canada, and this within the framework of studies in travel and tourism, says Ina.

Great

Ingrid had actually thought about going to England.

– The fact that it was an offer in English was important to me. When the opportunity arose in Canada, it was great, she says.

The university where they will study – the University of Northern British Columbia – has around 4,000 students. In 2005 and 2006, it was ranked by a Canadian magazine as the best small university in Canada.
