Norwegians travel more and further than most. When the trip is outside the EU, many are surprised when it comes to settling the mobile phone bill, as the voice and data meter starts and advances quite quickly when you connect to a mobile network outside of Europe.

The youngest among us, those aged 18 to 28, are avid computer users even on holiday, Telenor says in a press release. According to measurements from Telenor’s own network, younger people use 70% more data than other Telenor customers when they travel. This can be expensive, which is why Telenor is now launching additional benefits for this group when they travel.

“Young gifts”

Telenor has launched the Young Goodies subscription, which is now being extended with additional benefits for young travellers inside and outside the EU. The company writes in the press release that “Young Goodies is a mobile subscription for 18-28 year olds that can be tailored to their own consumption. For example, you can select the Goodies as ‘Holiday Data’. This gives you double the amount of data for three months a year that you can use in the EU/EEA. You can also choose benefits that give you 5 GB of additional data to use outside the EU each month, or four hours of calling from Norway to all countries in the world.

– Young people are constantly looking for new adventures. When you travel, you want to be able to be online, which in the past has led to higher phone bills. Now that we have launched Yng Goodies, we offer young people additional benefits, even when they are travelling, says Erik Getz Skotvedt, Head of Yng at Telenor Norway, in the press release.

The United States in the lead

According to new figures from Telenor’s mobile network, young people use on average 69 percent more data within the EU and 63 percent more data outside the EU than other Telenor customers. The vast majority of people want to take their mobile habits abroad, whether they are frequent users of Tiktok, Snapchat or Google Maps.

– When you use your mobile phone while travelling, travelling often becomes a little easier. You move more easily, know where you are and pay quickly and easily. To ensure that the travel and mobile experience is as optimal as possible, we have enabled our Yng customers to receive a 5 GB roaming package every month that they can use freely in Zone 1 countries outside the EU, says Skotvedt.

The list of countries to which this solution applies is: United States, Switzerland, Serbia, Montenegro, Thailand, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Myanmar, Greenland, Jersey, Ukraine, Australia, Canada, China, Faroe Islands, Hong Kong, Russia, Singapore, Macedonia, Bahrain, Israel, Kuwait, Oman, US Virgin Islands.

According to figures from the Telenor network, these are the five countries with the most traffic outside the EU: the United States, Thailand, China, Canada and Australia.
