Lars Volden replaces Lars Haugen.
STOCKHOLM (Aftenposten): The goalkeeper who was the hero of Norway’s first two World Cup games is being rested against Canada.
Despite Lars Haugen being phenomenal against Slovenia and Denmark and having a save percentage of 94.12, Lars Volden is included in tonight’s game against Canada.
There is no question of benching Haugen, he is still first choice. But none of the World Cup nations play with one goalkeeper for the entire duration of a tournament, not even Norway.
- LIVE at 8:15 p.m.: Norway v Canada Lars Volden, a daily fixture in the Finnish hockey elite, has impressed in both the pre-World Cup practice games and in training. That likely means Lars Haugen is the man to man the net against Sweden on Wednesday night.
- “We have full confidence in Volden and goalkeeping coach Pecka Alcen who made this choice,” said coach Roy Johansen during his press conference just over an hour before the game against Canada.
- We’re going to give them both some ice time, the goalie coach said well before the start of the World Championships.
