October 20, 2023 – This week, Ontario Basketball is pleased to share with our members a series of revamped safe sport policies. These policies have been developed in consultation with sports law and are aligned with our NSO Canada Basketball.
Sport safety is a top priority for Ontario Basketball. “A fundamental pillar of what we do is creating a safe and welcoming environment for all members of the basketball community. Ontario Basketball is committed to ensuring this happens across the province and we are focused on creating a framework that provides advice and guidance in critical areas to ensure this goal is achieved,” said Director General of the ABO, Dave Stockton.
OBA takes situations involving misconduct or mistreatment very seriously. For this reason, the OBA is committed to adopting and enforcing strong, clear and effective policies and processes to prevent and address all forms of misconduct or mistreatment.
OBA policies aim to promote a safe sports environment in a manner that allows for consistent, immediate, appropriate and meaningful action should a problem arise. They also aim to prevent problems by communicating expected standards of behavior.
If anyone wishes to report an incident or concern regarding misconduct or mistreatment involving anyone associated with the OBA, including but not limited to athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers and parents/guardians of athletes, this can be done by contacting [email protected]. .ca, which will then determine the appropriate forum and manner of handling the complaint – whether internally or referred to an external third party.
We invite all members and other stakeholders to carefully review the policies linked below or by accessing the new Safe Sport section of our website.
