Alexandria Loutitt won the gold medal at the Junior World Championships in Whistler. During his interview with the official FIS channel, there was joy, but also honesty. The 19-year-old decided to comment on the state of ski jumping in Canada.
The site for this year’s World Junior Championships is Canada. The hosts were represented by Alexandria Loutitt and couldn’t be beat. She won the gold medal and was less than fifteen points ahead of Nika Prevc, second in the standings.
The 19-year-old knows almost only by sight the facilities in Whistler, which hosted the Winter Olympics 13 years ago. For what? She explained it all in an interview with FIS, and her words show the current state of ski jumping in this country.
“It’s a special feeling considering the small group we have in Canada. I want to stress that we basically don’t have training opportunities here. I’m a player on a team that doesn’t have its own hill. Do you know about it? she says to the camera.
Thank you to our sponsors for being able to support us. I think I’ve proven that you can fight for big goals, no matter how difficult your day-to-day situation is. Whistler Olympic venues are unfunded. They are open two weeks per season, once every two years, she added.
Alexandria Loutitt made Canadian ski jumping history as the first gold medalist at the World Junior Championships. In the men’s competition, only two players made it – Horst Bulau in 1979, and a year later Steve Collins.
