Calgary, Alberta. (April 9, 2024) — Canada’s national ski racing championships concluded this weekend in Panorama, British Columbia, following championship races in Red Mountain, British Columbia, and Nakiska Ski Area, Alberta, over the last few weeks.

Cassidy Gray (Panorama, BC), who won the giant slalom (GS) title last month at Red, captured the women’s downhill (DH) crown last weekend on her home hill of Panaroma. With these two national titles, Gray has now won a total of four senior titles.

“Very proud of our entire team,” said an elated Gray. “So many Canadians have skied really fast and it’s exciting to see how strong Canada is. I’m super excited for the next season.

“It was super cool to host at Pano. This is my home hill and Pano tried his best to provide an elite experience for everyone. I saw firsthand how hard everyone at Pano worked, especially my mother who was one of the volunteers. The team of volunteers and the hill were amazing and they put on a world class event.

Also this weekend in Pano, Brodie Seger (North Vancouver, BC) won the men’s downhill for his first Canadian title, while his compatriot Kyle Alexander (North Vancouver, BC) finished second and, thanks to his results this weekend, Alexander won the title. Nor-Am Cup titles in DH and super-G (SG).

Late last month, the national ski cross championships were held at the Nakiska ski area outside of Calgary. India Sherret (Cranbrook, BC) dominated the women’s podium for her third national title and Reece Howden (Chilliwack, BC) won the men’s race for his third Canadian title.

The women’s podium in Nakiska was completed by national team members Tiana Gairns (Prince George, BC) in second place and Emeline Bennett (North Vancouver, BC) in third place. On the men’s side, Carson Cook (Edmonton, AB) finished second and Jared Schmidt (Ottawa, ON) third.

Earlier in March, at Red Mountain Resort in British Columbia, Canada’s national technology champions were crowned. Gray won the GS for the second year in a row and Jamie Casselman won the men’s GS for his second Canadian Championship victory. Elisabeth Creighton won the women’s slalom (SL) national title and Jesse Kertesz-Knight, a member of Canada’s World Junior Team, won the men’s SL title. This is a first Canadian national title for Creighton and Kertesz-Knight’s.
