Spengler Cup: extension for Pardubice, certain victory for Canada (VIDEO)

The first day of the 95th edition of the Spengler Cup is behind us. In the inaugural match, HC Dynamo Pardubice hockey players defeated HC Ambrì-Piotta 3-2 after overtime. In the second match, Canada won 4-0 against Frölunda HC.

There was a lot of emotion during the first meeting. After only 8 minutes, the HC Ambri-Piotta players led 2-0 thanks to goals from Formenton. However, the Czechs did not give up and scored a contact goal in the 30th minute thanks to Paulovic. In the third period, the Pardubice team managed to equalize and they did so in the 48th minute when Zohorna scored a goal. Extra time was needed to decide the match and Sedlak scored the golden goal in the 61st minute.

In the second match, both teams fought evenly for only ten minutes. As time passed, the Canadians took the initiative and scored two goals in 71 seconds. Smith scored first and Hazen added the penalty. In the second half, the Canadian team, made up of players from European leagues, added two more goals. First, Knight made a mistake and eventually the puck bounced off the Swedish player and landed in the goal. And then Hazen scored his second goal of the game and the fourth for the Maple Leafs players. In the third period, despite many situations, including Frölunda players, we did not see any goals. Aaron Dell kept a clean sheet, saving all 30 shots.
