A band former prime ministers, foreign ministers and other senior officials of NATO countries, issued a document which effectively proposes a formal alliance between Ukraine and NATO countries, which, if adopted, threatens to turn the proxy war in Ukraine into a full-scale conflict between NATO and Russia.
The document, titled Kyiv Security Compact, was formally presented to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj, who endorsed it, urged its adoption and posted it on the Ukrainian Presidency website.
The document calls on “the United States, Britain, Canada, Poland, Italy, Germany, France, Australia, Turkey and the Nordic, Baltic and Central European countries” to enter into “legally and politically binding agreements to ally with Ukraine in the country’s ongoing war against Russia.
The document confirms Ukraine’s intention to join NATO and the EU, stating: “Joining both NATO and the EU will significantly strengthen Ukraine’s long-term security. ‘Ukraine. … However, Ukraine needs security guarantees now.”
He adds: “Ukraine needs ironclad security guarantees. These will come mainly – but not exclusively – from NATO countries.
The document was prepared by the “Working Group on Security Guarantees for Ukraine”, which included high-ranking politicians from all the imperialist powers.
The group, of which Anders Fogh Rasmussen, former Danish Prime Minister and NATO Secretary General, is co-chair, includes Kevin Rudd, former Australian Prime Minister, Carl Bildt, former Swedish Prime Minister, Lord William J. Hague of Richmond, former Minister Foreign Affairs of the United Kingdom, as well as former Ministers of Germany, Italy, Poland and France.
Aware of the provocative nature of the document, communications from the group stressed that “members [av arbeidsgruppa] participating in their personal capacity and not as representatives of their organisations”.
The document suggests the creation of a “no-fly zone” in Ukraine, and points to a “set of agreements between Ukraine and countries that produce air defense and missile defense equipment, to provide the Ukraine systems for a modern and efficient air system”. defense and missile defense, in sufficient quantity to ensure a “closed sky” to airstrikes.”
The publication of this document helps to clarify the calendar of events in Ukraine over the past month.
The current offensive was preceded by extraordinarily provocative attacks on Russian military bases in Crimea and the assassination of Daria Dugina, daughter of Russian far-right ideologue and warmonger Alexander Dugin. All of these provocations were aimed at escalating the war and clearly bore the mark of “made in Washington”.
New York Times revealed on Tuesday that the recent Ukrainian military offensive, which caused the collapse of Russian troops in northeastern Ukraine, was suggested to the Zelenskyi government by the United States.
“Britain, the United States and Ukraine jointly conducted an assessment of the new plan, where they once again attempted to wargame it,” wrote Time. “This time, officials from all three countries agreed it would work – and give Mr. Zelenskyj what he wanted: a big, clear win.”
It is obvious that the political intention of this “great and clear victory” was to create the political conditions for a massive escalation of the involvement of the United States and NATO in the war, for which this document plays a crucial role.
Former NATO Secretary General Rasmussen, who announced the proposal, said: “Right now the Ukrainians are demonstrating on the front lines that with the necessary resources they can defeat Russia on the spot. battle. Ukrainians are showing a will to fight, and the democratic world must continue to empower them to fight.”
Russian officials responded to the release of the document with a combination of chilling threats and calls for the imperialist powers to come to their senses and pull themselves together.
Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, wrote on Telegram: “The Kyiv camarilla has drawn up ‘security guarantees’, which are a prologue to a third world war. Of course, no one will give the Ukrainian Nazis any “guarantee”. After all, this amounts to applying Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty (Washington Treaty) to Ukraine. For NATO, this is same shit, seen only from the side. That’s why it’s terrifying.
If Medvedev thinks that “nobody will give Kyiv ‘guarantees’, after more than eight years during which the imperialist powers have been building up the Ukrainian army for this same war, then he is suffering from illusions”. Medvedev himself threatened the powers of NATO, after this reassuring statement: “Everything around them will also catch fire. Their populations will be destroyed. Their earth will literally burn and the concrete will melt. We will also suffer a lot. It will be really bad for everyone. After all, it says, ‘By these three plagues a third of mankind was slain, with fire, smoke, and brimstone from their mouths’ (Revelation, 9:18).”
Maria Zakharova, spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, said: “Total commitment to supporting the Kyiv regime would simply mean total burning. [av EU].”
As can be seen from these statements, the Russian government has no response to the systematic plans to escalate the war, other than threats to destroy the world in a thermonuclear exchange and renewed calls on the imperialist powers to let them come to their senses.
The release of this document, coordinated at the highest level of government in the major NATO powers, makes it clear that the United States and its NATO allies are engaged in a massive escalation of a war that, if it continues, entails considerable dangers for all humanity.
