In the first group stage, the Canadians went to group C. At the very beginning, they had two extremely difficult clashes – with the Serbs (0:3) and the Americans (0:3). Later, however, they won three more games (against Kazakhstan, Bulgaria and Germany) and qualified for the second phase.
In it, they ended up in Group F. So far, they have played two games there. First they beat Thailand 3-1 and then Turkey 3-1. They currently sit fifth in the standings, which doesn’t guarantee a bye to the quarter-finals. If they want to stay in the game for this phase, they must win the tournament.
