The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), for which the former Norwegian Minister of Justice was responsible, is accused of having defaulted on its commitments on 25 million dollars.

According to the American newspaper, Grete Faremo will the New York Times resigned from his position as director of the United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS). The termination was pronounced with immediate effect. VG brings it back.

VG writes that the American newspaper links the dismissal to the newspaper’s own revelations about two UN employees who managed a fund that lost $25 million. Two employees reportedly defaulted on the fund, which among other things lent $22 million to a businessman with a history of financial default. Additionally, the employees allegedly paid the same man three million dollars to produce a song and a video game.

– I recognize my responsibility, writes Faremo according to VG in a note to which the New York Times had access.

– Without knowing the whole story, it happened on my watch, written Faremo according to Dagbladet in a letter to office workers, to which the newspaper had access.

In addition to having been Minister of Justice in two governments, Faremo has, according to Wikipedia previously also Minister for Development, Minister for Petroleum and Energy and Minister for Defence. She took the post of Director of the United Nations Office for Project Services in 2014.

UNOPS is a self-financing organization with operations in 80 countries and more than 6,000 employees, which assists authorities and development organizations such as the World Bank and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) with procurement, infrastructure development and capacity building.
