The great Norwegian talent beat Kramer’s time, which has lasted since January 2005. It was 13.09.65. Henriksen has shown he can become the new long distance king.
Last month he set the junior world record for the 5000 meters with 6.17.67 in Heerenveen. He then broke Håvard Bøkko’s record, also set in 2005.
Paired with Canadian favorite Graeme Fish, Henriksen set a fierce pace early on. After opening at 35.85, he had lap times between 30.5 (18th lap) and 31.4 (3rd lap).
With his mind-blowing time in the 10,000 meters in Calgary, he took a clear lead after three of six pairs at Saturday’s World Cup, but that didn’t hold up to the big guns. Davide Ghiotto of Italy took the win after setting a personal best 12.45.10. He beat Patrick Roest by 6.40 seconds in the event and relegated the Dutchman to 2nd place.
Beau Snellink took the last place on the podium. Seven out of twelve runners set a personal best, including three Norwegians. Hallgeir Engebråten finished ninth with 13.09.95 and Sander Eitrem tenth with 13.14.92.
