The Canadian Bianca Andreescu eliminated the Greek Maria Sakkari after more than three hours of marathon. Another Top 10 tennis player, Tunisian Ons Jabeur, also dropped out of the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami.
Friday in Miami, the end of the second round takes place. Maria Sakkari (WTA 10) said goodbye to the event without winning a match. The Greek was among 32 tennis players with free tickets. Her killer turned out to be Bianca Andreescu (WTA 31), the winner of the 2019 US Open. The Canadian won 5:7, 6:3, 6:4 after three hours and four minutes. Her next rival will be Sofia Kenin or Anhelina Kalinina.
In the whole game, Andreescu gave four assists and got five breaks. They scored six more points (115-109) and took a 2-1 lead in the game record against Sakkari. They met for the second time in Miami. Two years ago, the Canadian after the marathon was also better in the semifinals.
Ons Jabeur (WTA 5) lost 2:6, 2:6 against Varvara Graczewa (WTA 54). In 71 minutes, the Tunisian only used one out of four break points. Her rival converted five of the six break chances. Jabeur underwent knee surgery after the Australian Open and did not play in any tournaments in the Middle East in February. She returned to Indian Wells, where she beat Magdalena Fręch in three sets, only to give Marketa Vondrousova advice in the third round.
