A totally fruitless day for Polish tennis players in Barletta. Maks Kaśnikowski and Piotr Matuszewski were first eliminated in doubles, then their fate was shared by the Karol Drzewiecki-Szymon Walków duo.
Maks Kaśnikowski in duet with Australian James McCabe and Piotr Matuszewski in duet with Croatian Zvonimir Babić were eliminated in the first round of the ATP Challenger Tour tournament in Barletta.
On Wednesday, the honor of our country could still be saved by Karol Drzewiecki and Szymon Walków. The Polish duo were the highest seeds in the Italian challenger, and their first-round rivals were representatives of the hosts, brother of famed Matteo Berrettini, Jacopo and Flavio Cobolli.
The Italian couple entered the game better. It was she who beat her rivals in the third game and was able to speak of a successful start after leading 3:1. However, since then, the Poles, who were beginning to dominate, have moved up a gear.

They have won up to five games in a row, two of which smashed their opponents. Thanks to this, they made up for the loss with a vengeance and finally won the first installment. Despite the fact that our tennis players had to defend break points time and time again with their own serve, they managed to get away with it every time. In the end, they won 6:3 after using the first ball of the set.
In the second set, Berrettini and Cobolli started even better. We can say directly that they managed to dominate the Poles. After leading 5-0, Drzewiecki and Walków held serve for the first time in this set. In the next match, the Italians put a dot on the “i”, thanks to which they equalized the duel in 24 minutes.
The end result was decided by a super tie break. It wasn’t until the seventh ball that the first time a pair scored on their own serve, especially Berrettini and Cobolli (4-3).
From then on, we had a section where both duos scored on their serves. That changed when the Italians got a mini-break. They then managed to secure match balls (9-6). All were defended by the Poles, even that of the adversaries.
After Berrettini and Cobolli earned a mini-break to lead 11-10, they had their second match point on own serve and fifth overall. This time, however, they managed to close the match.
Thus, Drzewiecki and Walków, despite having the highest ranking, were eliminated for hello.
