– We and the fire brigade are at the opera and are looking for a dog that has fallen into the water, reports Oslo Police District Operations Manager Gjermund Stokkli.
Firefighters found the dog underwater. He is unconscious and life-saving first aid is in progress, they said shortly afterwards.
He was an acquaintance of the dog’s owner who was walking around the opera district when the dog fell into the water.
– It’s not often that we experience this here, and as a rule the dog manages to swim if it falls into the water, Stokkli explains to TV 2.
The dog is taken to an animal hospital in Ensjø, 110 Central reports.
Life could not be saved, although resuscitation was attempted.
“Unfortunately the dog died from drowning,” Oslo police reported at a quarter past ten on Wednesday morning.
The police took charge of the person who was responsible for the dog, he wrote in a message. When TV 2 asked, he explained that they were just taking care of the person in question and comforting them. It is an accident and not a crime, and only an investigation file is open.
The owner of the dog is also notified.
Stokkli tells TV 2 that it is very rare for dogs to die this way in the region. As a rule, dogs can swim and it is very rare that the police and the fire brigade have to be called for help in such a case.
But this time it ended in tragedy at the opera.
