Polish tennis players – without Iga Świątek – lost to Kazakhstan (1-3) in the match which was to qualify for the final of the Billie Jean King Cup (BJK Cup) 2023.

The Polish Tennis Association (PZT) intends to apply for the so-called “wild card” for Polish women.

– We intend to take advantage of the high position of Polish players in the WTA ranking. Iga Świątek is the leader and Magda Linette is in the top twenty. Among the countries that did not qualify for the final, if we take into account these two players, we have the strongest composition and, above all, we have the WTA leader – announced Tomasz Dobiecki, spokesperson for the PZT at Interia.

It won’t be easy. 11 out of 12 teams have already qualified for the final tournament. They are: Switzerland, Australia, Spain, Czech Republic, France, Canada, United States, Italy, Germany, Kazakhstan and Slovenia.

In last year’s edition of the BJK Cup, the “wild card” went to Great Britain, who hosted the final. This year, the British federation is also likely to apply for the organization of the event, and the British are not among the qualified teams.
