The participation of Russian athletes in international events will be Vladimir Putin’s success, Sejm President Elżbieta Witek said Monday in Prague. According to her, resolutions on this issue should be adopted by the parliaments of EU countries.
Monday in Prague, the Marshal of the Sejm participates in the conference of the presidents of the parliaments of the Member States of the European Union.
Witek spoke about Russian aggression, stressing that Ukraine might not be able to cope without the support of the democratic world.
“In order to stop Russian aggression, he must become more actively involved in activities that, firstly, will help defeat the criminal regime, secondly, will allow Ukraine to join the European community as soon as possible, prepare the basis financing for the reconstruction of Ukraine and to ensure the energy independence of Europe, and above all to be in these activities together, consolidated. Only in this way can we ensure the security of our nations”, declared the Marshal of the Sejm.
She stressed that Poland is Ukraine’s advocate on the international scene and puts Ukraine’s case on the agenda.
Witek also pointed out that Russia is trying to get back to Europe in various ways, e.g. through sporting and cultural events. “We encourage you to do what Lithuania has already done and what the Chairman of the (Supreme Council of Ukraine, Ruslan) Stefanchuk encourages us to adopt in our parliaments a resolution that condemns and expresses our disagreement with the participation of athletes Russians and Belarusians at international events, because that will be Putin’s success,” she said.
She also pointed out that African leadership is important, because that’s where the Russians come in with the disinformation. “You have to maintain contacts with African countries in different ways” – she said and announced that she herself would meet with ambassadors of African countries and centers of opinion to talk about the war in Ukraine, which is the aggressor and who is the victim.
“The world must know that Ukrainian women are being used as instruments of war and must know that children have been kidnapped to raise them as Russians,” Witek said, referring to meetings of women’s parliaments and adding that a major conference on this subject will take place in May in Warsaw.
