Iga Świątek will only play one tournament before Wimbledon 2023. The Polish tennis player will be the biggest star of the WTA 250 grass court competition in Bad Homburg.
After the triumph at Roland Garros 2023, Iga Świątek took a two-week break from racing. After a recovery period, she started training on grass, which is not her favorite surface. As part of the preparations for Wimbledon 2023, the Pole will play only one event, the WTA 250 rankings, which will begin on Sunday in the German seaside resort of Bad Homburg.
Of course, Świątek was placed first. On Friday, she met her first opponent. It was Tatiana Maria. She is a tennis player who caused a sensation in the semi-finals at Wimbledon last year. Currently, the 35-year-old German is starting in the WTA 125 (WTA Challenger) tournament in Gaiba, Italy, where she has already reached the semi-finals.
Recall that the organizers of the Bad Homburg Open scheduled Świątek’s first match two weeks ago for Monday June 26 (more here). The detailed program of matches for this day will be published on Sunday. Then we will know the exact time of the duel Świątek – Maria.

In the half of the scale, in which the leader of the WTA ranking is placed, there is no shortage of interesting names. If the Pole reaches the second round, she will face a qualification. In the quarter-finals, the American Alycia Parks, the Canadian Leylah Fernandez, the Chinese Lin Zhu and the German Sabina Lisicka, therefore a Wimbledon finalist ten years ago, may already be waiting. Alternately, in the second quarter, the top seeds were Egypt’s Mayar Sherif (number 4) and Russia’s Varvara Gracheva (number 8).
As for the bottom half, tennis players who can play on grass went there. The “two” will be interpreted by the Russian Lyudmila Samsonowa, and the “three” by the Croatian Donna Vekić. Apart from them, Canadian Bianca Andreescu (number 5) and Italian Elisabetta Cocciaretto (number 7) were also seeded here.
Competition in the main group of the Bad Homburg Open 2023 will begin on Sunday, June 25. The winner of the tournament will be selected on Saturday (July 1).
