What a battle it was! Jelena Rybakina and Jennifer Brady created a great show, performed over two days. In the next round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Montreal, there are two Americans, Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff.

Jelena Rybakina’s (WTA 4) first rival in Montreal was Jennifer Brady (WTA 584), who is returning after health issues. The 2021 Australian Open finalist put up strong resistance against Kazakhstan in a two-day battle. In the end, the 2022 Wimbledon champion won 6-7(3), 7-6(5), 6-3 after two hours and 41 minutes.

On Tuesday, Rybina made up for the 2:4 loss and there was a tie-break in the first set. In it, the match was abandoned due to rain. A day later, Brady proved to be more effective, and there was a sensation.

In the second set, Rybakina got a break at 5:4, but after a while she gave up the application. There was still a tie-break. Brady followed up and went from 2-5 to 5-5. She was two points away from a big win, but they were won by Kazaszka. The third set continued to be an uphill battle. His fate was decided by a break, which Rybakina got at 5:3.

In the whole match, Rybakina served 12 aces and Brady had three. Kazaszka scored 48 out of 63 on his first serve. She was broken twice and converted three of her seven break points. Her next rival will be 2017 US Open champion Sloane Stephens. The American didn’t have to go out on Tuesday as Victoria Azarenka withdrew due to an injury she suffered during the warm-up before the match .

Coco Gauff (WTA 7) beat Katie Boulter (WTA 72) 6-2, 6-2. In 73 minutes, the Roland Garros 2022 runner-up scored 15 from 20 on her first serve and had five breaks. Jessica Pegula (WTA 3) converted three of her six break points to win 6-4, 6-4 against Yulia Putintseva (WTA 61).

Belinda Bencic (WTA 13) defeated Alycia Parks (WTA 47) 6-3, 5-7, 6-4. In the third set, the Swiss won the last four games by 2:4. The match lasted two hours and 44 minutes. The American served 14 aces, but also committed 11 double faults. She only used three out of 14 points. Bencic converted five of 13 break chances.
