Leylah Fernandez got off to a great start in Cleveland (WTA 250). The Canadian tennis player crushed the Czech Linda Noskova. China’s Lin Zhu gave Anna Blinkowa no chance.

The third edition of the WTA tournament has started in Cleveland. Leylah Fernandez (WTA 72) joined the competition. First, the Canadian defeated Linda Noskova (WTA 42) 6-0, 6-2. In 64 minutes, the 2021 US Open finalist defended three break points and used five of her 11 break chances. She scored 19 of 25 on her first serve. Fernandez’s next opponent will be either Barbora Krejcikova or Clara Tauson.

Noskova, 18, reached this year in Adelaide and Prague her first final on the WTA circuit. In this first tournament, she beat two tennis players from the Top 10 ranking, Daria Kasatkina and Ons Jabeur. Fernandez has two titles to his name and won both in Monterrey (2021, 2022). Two years ago, she stormed the US Open and only lost in the final to Emma Raducan.

Lin Zhu (WTA 48) defeated Anna Blinkova (WTA 39) 6-0, 6-3. In 78 minutes, the Chinese converted six of nine break chances. She won 66 points out of 110 played (60%).

Ekaterina Aleksandrova (WTA 22) won 6:1, 6:4 against Patricia Maria Tig (WTA 705). In the match, which lasted 76 minutes, the Russian served 11 aces and scored 31 out of 38 points on her first serve. She blocked three break points and got three breaks.

A Polish woman will take part in the tournament. Magdalena Fręch (WTA 75) qualified for the main draw after passing the qualifiers. Monday around approx. At 7:00 p.m. Polish time, her rival will be the Italian Jasmine Paolini (WTA 35).

For tennis players, the Cleveland tournament is the last chance to test their form before the US Open. The Grand Slam event in New York begins on Monday, September 28.
