The Meteorological Institute reports that it’s time to dust off the umbrella in northern Norway.

– Hello, Northern Norway! Now is the time to dust off the umbrella. In the coming days, several depressions will head north and finally ensure a real complement of rain in the north, writes the Meteorological Institute on Twitter / X.

Duty meteorologist Eirin Walstad Ristesund confirms that there will be some rain in the north of the country during the week.

– In the north it had record high temperatures in places and very little rainfall, so for northern Norway a wet week is not as bad news as in the south.

– Rainfall has been terribly patchy this summer.

The rains are expected to peak on Thursday, followed by calmer weather.

In the north, the weather has been hot and dry for a long time. A total of 13 new heat records were set in northern Norway last week.

With 27 days of summer, Tromsø, among others, broke old records from 2013 and 1960.

At the same time, it is expected to be warmer in southern Norway from Wednesday. The capital can expect sunshine and temperatures above 20 degrees on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, according to the report. Pent.no.

According to Ristesund, this is due to the high pressures that are forming over Norway.

– From Wednesday the weather will start to dry out and there will be long periods of dry weather in southern Norway.

First a little rain

Before the sun comes up, the Østafjells still have to prepare for some rain.

– Southern Norway has now received quite a bit of rain, to put it mildly, and it probably won’t stop any time soon, says Ristesund.

– Southern Norway will experience a wet start to the week.

The meteorologist states that a torrential rain danger warning is being assessed as heavy rain has been reported on Mjøsa.

– That’s not exactly the message people want now.

Monday morning there was still a red NVE flood warning for parts of Drammensvassdraget, while it was orange for parts of Glomma and Mjøsa.

Western Norway still has the heaviest rainfall, but Ristesund points out that these are areas that can sustain much more.

– The ground can withstand much more to the west and the rivers transport water incredibly faster.

On Tuesday, the weather will also be wet in southern Vestland and Rogaland.
