A man in his 20s has been charged with negligent homicide after driving in the opposite direction into the Oslo Opera House tunnel last November.
A young woman died when the car she was in collided with a train in the Opera tunnel on November 5.
Today, the driver, a man in his twenties, is charged with negligent homicide.
It was Oslo Journal who mentioned the indictment first.
In the indictment from the Oslo District Court, it is stated that the man was not sufficiently alert and careful when he crossed the continuous double yellow barrier on Mosseveien and drove in the opposite direction on more than a kilometer.
– My client is not pleading guilty, because he believes he has not demonstrated sufficient guilt in the case, the defendant’s defense lawyer, Aase Sigmond, told VG.
Four passengers in the car
In total, there were four passengers aged between 17 and 20 in the car. In addition to the woman who died instantly, another passenger was seriously injured.
The prosecutor warns that he will demand the withdrawal of the man’s driving license and that a request for compensation will be filed with the passengers.
The passenger who was seriously injured, according to the Oslo prosecutor’s indictment, suffered crush injuries, numerous fractures, punctured lungs, liver and kidney damage.
The case has not yet been brought before the Oslo District Court.
Accused of several cases linked to the fatal accident
The 29-year-old man is accused of violating article 281 of the Penal Code, for negligently causing the death of another, as well as article 280, for negligently causing serious bodily harm to another passenger.
He has been charged with negligent traffic homicide since the accident on November 5 last year.
– They probably came from Mosseveien and entered the tunnel. They then drove more than a kilometer in the wrong direction before the accident occurred, police lawyer Eric Lindset told AO of the sequence of events.
Lindset will take legal action against the driver when the case against him is heard in the Oslo District Court.
