PLANICA (VG) Sweden and Calle Halfvarsson (33) never came close to fighting for a medal in the team sprint at the World Championships. After the finish line, the veteran blamed his skis.

Along with Edvin Anger, Halfvarsson and Sweden were among the biggest medal contenders, but even before the final stage they were dropped and there was a big setback.

After a week of rather spring-like weather, a good amount of fresh snow arrived on the Slovenian Planica on Sunday night.
A few minutes earlier, the Swedes Emma Ribom and Jonna Sundling had entered into gold medal at the World Championships in the women’s final.
– I didn’t think much about it. I held on, so that was good, Sundling told VG.
– I had to fight to follow Jessie Diggins, but I didn’t think much about it there, Ribom told VG.
– Girls are a bit like Klæbo and can have bad skis, but still win. We don’t have these margins on our side, says Halfvarsson and continues:
– It’s hard to feel like it’s not working. It’s not something we can do during the race, but I thought during the changes that “it’s done”.
Faced with Halfvarsson’s ski criticism, Swedish lubrication manager Petter Myhlback responds:
– It’s not high-level skiing, it’s ok skiing. But to win a medal, you have to be at your best, and that wasn’t the case today, Myhlback said.
– I’m suffering a little with the boys, concludes the lubrication manager.
This is not the first time that Calle Halfvarsson has experienced difficulties on the World Championship tracks:
