The death is the first reported since the start of the fire season in Canada, where 900 fires are currently burning. 570 of them are out of control.
Local police said the 19-year-old woman was working in a remote area of Revelstoke, British Columbia, when she lost contact with her team on Thursday. She was later found under a fallen tree and taken to hospital, but her life could not be saved.
So far, 90,000 square kilometers of land have been destroyed by wildfires in Canada, eleven times more than the average over the past decade. The affected area is larger than Portugal.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called the death heartbreaking and thanked Canadian firefighters for their courage.
– We must never forget the risk these heroes take every time they run against their father, Justin Trudeau tweeted.
British Columbia ordered further evacuations following the fires and requested the help of 1,000 additional foreign firefighters.
It is also burning across large parts of eastern Canada, which is expected to experience the worst wildfire season in history.
