Sota Yamamoto won the soloist competition and Kaori Sakamoto was the best among the soloists.
The Japanese were the best individually and the Canadians were the best in pairs at Skate Canada – the second figure skating Grand Prix of the season. Sota Yamamoto won the soloist competition and Kaori Sakamoto was the best among the soloists. The Vancouver Poles did not participate.
Yamamoto finished the competition with 258.42 points and was slightly better than his compatriot Kao Miura, second (257.89). Third place went to Italian Matteo Rizzo (246.01).
Sakamoto, with 226.13 points, is clearly ahead of the second Korean, Chaeyeon Kim (201.15), and the third Japanese, Rino Matsuike (198.62).
In the pairs sports competition, Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps collected 214.64 points, decisively beating the Hungarian duo from Russia, Maria Pavlova and Alexei Sviatchenko (187.78). Third place went to the Italian duo Lucrezia Beccari and Matteo Guarise (181.42).
Canadians Piper Gilles and Paul Poirier won the pairs dance competition (219.01 points). The next places were occupied by the British Lilah Fear and Lewis Gibson (209.55) and the Lithuanians Allison Reed and Saulius Ambrulevicius (192.01).
Skate Canada is the second of six stops in the Grand Prix series this season, culminating with the final in Beijing scheduled for early December. The next competition will take place November 3-5 in Angers, France.
