The Moroccan national team, which beat the Belgian favorite 2:0, created a very big surprise. Canada became the second team to say goodbye to the World Cup after losing 4-1 to Croatia. Germany remain in the game after a draw against Spain.
The match against Morocco was to be a highway for Belgium towards the 1/8 finals. However, the Africans decided to thwart the plans of the 2018 bronze medalists and beat their rivals 2:0. This greatly complicates the progress of the Belgians, who will play for everything in the last match against Croatia. Morocco, in turn, in case of victory over Canada, could leave Group F in first position, which – given the class of rivals – would cause a sensation.
All that’s left in Canada is a fight for honour. The North American team, after a 4-1 loss to Croatia, says goodbye to dreams of promotion. The Canadians won favor with fans around the world with their efficient and attacking play, but in the end, the interesting style of play didn’t translate into results.
Costa Rica was also a surprise – after the 0:7 opener with Spain, it looked like they were a team that wouldn’t be able to win even a point in Qatar. Meanwhile, the Central American team managed to score as many as three points in the game against Japan, which even Germany couldn’t. From a very high defeat, Costa Rica entered the promotion game, which will be decided by the last match, with the 2014 world champions.
Germany remained in the promotion game thanks to a 1-1 draw against Spain. Their situation was extremely threatened, but they kept their composure and thanks to this, in the last match, they will fight for the exit of the group with Costa Rica. Our western neighbors will probably also support Spain in the encounter with Japan. In Group E, everything will be decided in the last matches, because everyone can still qualify for the round of 16.
GROUP E
Japan – Costa Rica 0:1 (0:0)
Spain – Germany 1:1 (0:0)
GROUP F
