Polish tennis players spent another week in the ITF World Tennis Tour. There have been notable results. This time the best was Kacper Żuk, who won the title in Switzerland.

Kacper Żuk, currently ranked 258th in the ATP rankings, did not do well enough in the challengers, so he used the known method from the previous season. The citizen of Nowodworan has gone down a level, to the events of the ITF World Tennis Tour. This week he decided to start in Trimbach, Switzerland, and as the second seed he won a competition with a $25,000 prize pool.

Żuk’s title, Piczkowski’s final

On the way to the final, Żuk lost two sets. He had a difficult task in the semi-finals, during which he turned the tide of the duel and beat Germany’s Daniel Masur 3:6, 6:3, 7:5. The Pole played for the title on Sunday with Bejbit Żukajew. The Kazakh won 6:4, 6:4 and thanks to that, he won the 12th singles championship on professional courts, and the 11th in the tournament under the aegis of the ITF.

The Blanc-Rouge group decided to start in Tunisian Monastir. The best of our men was Olaf Pieczkowski, who won four games and entered the final. On Sunday, Italian Lorenzo Rottoli proved to be better than the 18-year-old, who won 7:6(5), 6:3. Pieczkowski must therefore still wait for the first singles championship on professional grounds.

In Monastir, Tomasz Berkieta reached the first quarter-final of his career. The 16-year-old Pole won two matches, including Lebanon’s Hady Habib as the highest seed. However, in the quarter-final clash with Italian Simone Roncalli, he retired at 6:7, 0:1. Szymon Kielan also appeared in the quarter-finals, but at this point he was stopped by Pieczkowski (6:1, 6:1). Jasza Szajrych, the fourth of the White-Reds, did not manage the elimination in singles, but with the German Adrian Oetzbach, he reached the semi-finals in doubles.

Our other tennis players did not achieve remarkable results. In Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, Martyn Pawelski was knocked out in the first round. In Portuguese Portimao, Filip Peliwo (loss in the main tournament) and Artsiom Dabryian (lost in the qualifying round) did not score, as did Maciej Rajski (loss in the first round) in Bakersfield, California. Many Poles did not manage the elimination. This group included Marcel Politowicz (Palmanova), Marcel Zieliński (Antalya) and Piotr Czaczkowski, Gabriel Matuszewski and Piotr Kusiewicz (Rovinj).

The first victories of Chwalińska and Piter

Among the Czech-Ricans, Maja Chwalińska won her first victories after her knee surgery in September. The Pole reached the quarter-finals, but did not go to the duel with the Croatian Antonia Ruzic because of a cold. Katarzyna Kawa, who is not doing well in European theaters this year, competed unsuccessfully with our neighbors to the south. Zuzanna Bednarz, however, did not qualify for the singles tournament and received a wild card from the organizers.

Katarzyna Piter has also returned to competition on professional courts after a six-month break. The Poznań native took part in the doubles tournament in Palmanova, Spain, with Katharina Hobgarski. The Polish-German duo reached the semi-finals, where top Portuguese seeds Francisca Jorge and Matilde Jorge proved better.

In Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, Martyna Kubka showed herself very well. In singles, our tennis player beat three rivals and only in the semi-finals did she not meet Ho Ching Wu from Hong Kong. Gina Feistel lost in the first round to Yasmin Ezzat of Egypt. Then, however, she did well in doubles, where she reached the semi-finals with Germany’s Selina Dal.

The remaining Biało-Czerwone cannot count this week as a success. In Pretoria, Weronika Baszak did not finish the competition, losing the second round matches with Japan’s Mai Hontama. Also making their professional court debuts, Lena Jednocz (Palmanova), Xenia Bandurowska (Antalya), Agnieszka Olszewska (Heraklion) and Justyna Jodłowska, Maja Bajorek and Olga Gołas (Monastyr) also failed to qualify.
