North Field: (Canada won the toss): Canada (2 points) beat Panama (0) by 163 points
Batter Aaron Johnson’s vicious 121 runs off 59 balls led Canada to a big win over Panama and kept the pressure on Bermuda in the race for the T20 World Cup.
Man of the match Johnson, the first batter to score a hundred in the tournament, hit 11 fours and six fours for a career-best knock as Canada made 230 for four in 20 overs. Panama could only manage 67 off 17.1 overs in reply.
Johnson isn’t giving up the fight to play on the biggest stage of them all and sees it as his responsibility to help increase his team’s run rate.
“Net run rate is very important to us,” Johnson said.
“We know we have a lot of work to do and I’m really happy that we are fighting back. We demonstrate team spirit and show what we are made of. We are strong together and let’s see how we prepare.
“The wicket was a bit tricky at first, the ball was also a bit slow, so I took some time to get used to the pace off the wicket, but it was a good move for me and the Canadian team .”
