Canadian Drama News. Alexandra Paul, a 31-year-old figure skater who competed for Olympic medals in Sochi, has died. Fate spared her one-year-old son Charles, whom she traveled with.
The death has been officially confirmed by Skate Canada.
“It is with a heavy heart that Skate Canada announces the sudden passing of a valued member of our skating community, Alexandra Paul,” he said on social media.
“Our hearts go out to Aleksandra’s family, her friends and everyone who was lucky enough to know her.”
Earlier this week, Paul was involved in an accident involving seven vehicles in Melancthon Township, less than 100 kilometers from Toronto.
Her one-year-old son was also in the car and was taken to a local hospital as his injuries were not life-threatening. Paul died instantly.
“During their illustrious career, Alexandra and her partner Mitchell Islam have won multiple international medals, three Canadian championships and competed in the 2014 Winter Olympics,” Skate Canada said in a statement.
Alex had a charm that extended far beyond the ice. She always exuded kindness and warmth, said 2014 Olympic ice dance champion Maryl Davis.
Paul graduated with a law degree in 2021. Two years ago, she also married her dance partner Mitchell Islam. Their son, Charles, was born last year.
After Paul’s death, a fundraiser was organized to help Islam and little Charles. Sunday morning, the account already had 190,000. dollars.
