The match between Yelena Rybakina and Lyudmila Samsonova in the WTA 1000 tournament in Montreal had a surprising course. The first set was dominated by Kazaszka, but later the situation completely changed.

On Saturday, the second semi-final in Montreal was canceled due to rain. A day later, Yelena Rybakina (WTA 4) and Lyudmila Samsonowa (WTA 18) took to the court after 1 p.m. 7:30 p.m. Polish time. The first set definitely belonged to Kazaszka, but then everything changed. In the end, the 2022 Wimbledon champion lost 6-1, 1-6, 2-6.

In one hour and 43 minutes, Rybakina served 11 aces and committed nine double faults. She used three of her six break points. Samsonowa converted five out of nine chances to break. She scored 12 more points (79-67) and brought the game against Kazaszka to 3-0.

Samsonowa will return to court on Sunday. She will face Jessica Pegula in the final. The record of their meetings is 2-1 for the American. All these confrontations were fights in 3 sets. The final in Montreal is scheduled to start at 11:30 p.m. Polish time.

Samsonowa, 24, has played two games in one day in Montreal once. Friday, in the 1/8 finals, she eliminated Aryna Sabalenka, and in the quarter-finals, she beat the Swiss Belinda Bencic. This week, the Russian earned her fourth and fifth career wins against the top 10 female tennis players.

For Samsonowa, it will be the biggest final of his career and the sixth overall on the WTA Tour. In 2021 and 2022, she won four titles. This season, she suffered her only defeat in the final. In February in Abu Dhabi, she lost in three sets against Belinda Bencic.
