Aryna Sabalenka (WTA 2) and Barbora Krejcikova (WTA 13) met for the third time in 2024. The previous two matches turned out to be three-set battles with both tennis players winning one match each. Sabalenka served eight aces in 66 minutes and scored 29 of 33 on her first serve. She used three of her four break points. Krejcikova didn’t have a break, and she had a chance to do so. Sabalenka took the all-match record against the Czech to 4-1.
Bianca Andreescu (WTA 31) faced Ekaterina Aleksandrova (WTA 18). There were a lot of twists in the first set. The Canadian led 2-0 and 40-15, but did not extend to 3-0. She then lost 3-5 to win three games in a row. Eventually, there was a tie-break in which the 2019 US Open champion didn’t score a single point. In the second set, Andreescu gave her rival two points and went out at 2:0. Unfortunately, in the second game, she injured her left ankle and left the field in a wheelchair.
