ATP ranking after the Miami Open. The decline of Hurkacz and the change of leader

Last week, the best tennis players in the world participated in the Miami Open 2023. The results of the tournament influenced the development of the ATP ranking. Novak Djokovic has become the new leader of the classification, ahead of Carlos Alcaraz. The situation is all the more interesting as the Serb hasn’t even appeared in American competitions.

Djokovic is the absolute record holder as leader of the ATP rankings

Last weekend he triumphed on American courts Daniel Medvedev. The Russian tennis player defeated Jannik Sinner 7:5, 6:3 in the final of the tournament. Thanks to this, the best player of the Miami Open 2023 rose to fourth place in the ATP ranking. Medvedev just outside the virtual podium came at the expense of Casper Ruud.

However, the changes took place mainly in the first three. Carlos Alcaraz lost in the semifinals of the Miami Open and failed to defend his championship title. As a result, he lost 640 points and fell to second place in the ATP rankings. He passed it Novak Djokovicwho didn’t even play in the US tournament. East this is the player’s 381st week as an ATP leader. This is an absolute record for men.

The changes also affected the best Polish tennis player, i.e. Hubert Hurkacz. The Pole ended his adventure with the Miami Open in the third round, where the Frenchman Adrian Mannarino proved to be better than him (7:6, 7:6). As a result, the Wrocław native dropped to 12th place. Before the Florida tournament, the Pole was in tenth position. Now he has been passed by Jannik Sinner, Taylor Fritz and Karen Khachanov.
