A total of 16 new companies were prequalified in 2006 as licensees or operators on the NCS. At the beginning of the year, 13 other companies were being assessed.
The system of pre-qualification as concessionaire or operator was introduced following the authorities’ desire to bring new competent players to the Norwegian continental shelf.
12 companies prequalified as licensed in 2006:
Mitsubishi, Discover, PA Resources, Ener Petroleum, Faroe Petroleum, Edison, Serica, Rocksource, Noreco, VNG, Bridge Energy, Aker Exploration
5 companies prequalified as operators in 2006:
OMV, Hunt Oil, Nexen, Petro Canada, Noreco.
Noreco was first prequalified as a licensee, then also as an operator.
Since the program’s inception in 2000, a total of 40 companies have been shortlisted. 22 of them are prequalified as operators, while 18 are prequalified as licensees.
The background for creating this program is to give companies an offer to assess their suitability for participation on the Norwegian Continental Shelf before companies use resources to assess specific business opportunities.
Furthermore, the scheme is used if the authorities deem it necessary to re-examine/re-qualify a company that is currently an operator/low-level operator and wishes to increase its activity.
At the end of the year, 13 companies were being assessed, four of which are seeking pre-qualification as an operator.
Company under consideration:
Oilexo, Premier Oil, Pioner, E.ON Ruhrgas, Genesis Petroleum, Skagen 44, Bow Valley Energy, Petrofac, Flying high, PGNiG, Dana petrol, Concedo and BayernGas.
