NSK’s commercial director, Thomas Myhre, says this is an important contract.
– As the Harstad company, we will provide the design for this vessel which will sail for the world’s largest salmon farmer, Mowi, on the Canadian coast. It’s big!
It was the Hareid-based shipping company Intership that contracted a new tanker and at the same time concluded a long-term agreement with Mowi Canada Øst. The well barge will have a loading capacity of 2,200 m3 and will be delivered in the first quarter of 2022.
Fish welfare
The new vessel was designed by NSK Ship Design and will be built at the Zamakona Yards Bilbao shipyard in Spain. In addition to focusing on the good health of the fish and avoiding the spread of infections, the vessel will be equipped with a fully integrated freshwater system with a large production capacity relative to the size of the well. This will be the second boat with a fresh water system for Intership, in addition to the system on Inter Caledonia, which entered service in 2016, NSK writes in a press release.
Solid growth
Intership was established in 2014 and has seen solid growth since its inception. After the takeover of the new building, the total capacity of the fleet will increase to reach well over 13,000 m3 spread over 8 well boats. Ships operate in Norway, Chile, Scotland, Iceland and the east and west coasts of Canada.
– It is with great pleasure that we share this news. In addition to building yet another wellboat, we have once again earned the trust of our long-time customer, Mowi. Once the vessel is delivered, we will have two boats operating for the same client, on the east coast of Canada, says Intership managing director Ole Peter Brandal.
Important contract
The design was developed in close collaboration with Intership.
– For NSK Ship Design, this is a very important contract that allows us to take an even stronger position in the aquaculture sector, says Thomas Myhre, Head of Sales and Marketing at NSK Ship Design. NSK Ship Design has a large order book including large aquaculture facilities and wellboats. and fishing boats under construction in Norwegian and foreign shipyards.
