Juliette Lamour had just turned 18 and says it was her grandfather who suggested she buy a lottery ticket ‘for fun’ as she was now quite old, writes CBS News.
Lamour bought the lottery ticket but forgot everything. However, while at work on January 7, she learned that someone from her hometown of Sault Ste. Marie in Ontario had won.
– I wish I never won
– Everyone shouted
She opened the Ontario Lottery mobile app and the text “Big Winner” appeared on the screen, she said.
– My colleague got down on his knees. He cried. In fact, everyone was screaming that I had won $48 million, Lamour says, according to CBS News.
– At first, I did not understand what had happened. I couldn’t integrate it.
The gigapot of 48 million dollars corresponds to almost 370 million Norwegian kroner.
– I cried – tears of joy, of course, said Lamour during a press conference organized by the Ontario Lottery, according to BBC.
Clear plan
Lamour plans to invest some of the money in his dream of becoming a doctor, without having to worry about getting scholarships or student loans.
However, she also wants to have fun for the money.

– As soon as school is over, my family and I will choose a continent and explore it. I want to discover different countries, study their history and culture, try their food and listen to their language, she said according to the BBC.
The 18-year-old also hopes to live up to the advice she has received from those close to her.
– Money does not define you. It’s the work you do that will define you, says Lamour.
