The local newspaper Chronicle of Augustus spoke to one of the spectators who was nearly hit.
– I stood up and screamed and thought, “Is this going to fall on me?” It fell on our left and it was so terrifying. If the wind had blown in a slightly different direction, we could have been hit, Megan Hill from New York told the newspaper.
Hovland had played ten holes when weather forced the organizer to stop play.
Hovland shot seven under par in the first round to share the lead going into round two at the famed Augusta course. In the second round, it became more difficult for the Norwegian, who could not follow up on Thursday’s good start.
On the first hole, he got into huge trouble, but saved himself by sinking the 16-yard putt.
He was very close to birdie on the third hole, but the ball grazed the rim and stayed in the air. On hole six, he had to endure the first bogey of the tournament when he got into trouble.
With that, he’s six under par. Brooks Koepka leads at twelve under par.
Hovland will play in a dream squad for the first two rounds. With him on the laps he has legend Tiger Woods and reigning Olympic champion Xander Schauffele.
Bad weather was reported with lots of wind and rain this weekend in Augusta. On Saturday it will rain heavily and there is a risk of lightning and thunder. In this case, it will force several pauses in the game.
