China: – Qualifies NATO as a “terrible monster”

– Most Asian countries do not welcome NATO and also see them as a terrible monster that should be avoided at all costs, writes the Chinese state newspaper world times.

The article comes towards the end of the NATO summit in Vilnius, the Lithuanian capital, where member states of the defense alliance discussed, among other things, the war in Ukraine and defense capabilities in Asia.

According to the newspaper, the American media should have written that NATO is trying to curb China’s strategic ambitions.

The Chinese newspaper further writes that the war in Ukraine has further provided a lifeline for the defense alliance, which they say was “on the verge of brain death” before the outbreak of war.

The reason the Global Times warns against the defense alliance is that the newspaper believes that the defense alliance carries security risk, war threats and threatens development in Asia.

– Ignore basic facts

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin made the remarks after a joint statement from the NATO summit in Vilnius that was highly critical of China.

On Wednesday, NATO suggested, among other things, that China was undermining the security and interests of the defense alliance because of its “ambitions and coercive policy”. The alliance has spoken out harshly against the country’s “divisive rhetoric and the spread of disinformation”.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg told reporters at the summit that while China was no adversary to NATO, it was increasingly challenging the rules-based international order with its ” coercive behavior”.

China’s EU envoy said NATO’s accusations “ignored fundamental facts, distorted China’s position and policy, and deliberately cast doubt on China.”

Putin planning a visit to China

Putin’s spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, confirms that a visit to China is on the Russian president’s agenda, but that no date has been set.

– This is an absolutely opportune time to maintain high momentum in the development of Russian-Chinese bilateral relations, Peskov said.

The two countries have since strengthened their economic and military ties, and Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Moscow in March this year.

China has not condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, nor ended sanctions against the country. Among other things, Beijing buys large amounts of Russian oil and gas.
