Tomorrow is New Year’s Eve, and for many that means sunshine, swimming and bonfires.
The weather will be good, but the fire will probably have to be omitted, says meteorologist Julie Solsvik Vågane.
Against the “holiday myth”
– On Midsummer’s Eve, the weather will be fine in the south, east and west. There will be plenty of sunshine and good temperatures.
She says southern and eastern Norway will have a particularly pleasant day tomorrow.
– In southern and eastern Norway there will be plenty of good weather and fairly decent temperatures of around 20-25 degrees.
In the west, it will also be fine.
– Western Norway will experience slightly better temperatures tomorrow than today, and will likely see around 15-20 degrees.
– Varied in the north
In northwest Norway and up to Nordland, however, there will be rainfall, according to Vågane.
– It will be a bit more extreme in the north. In Møre and Romsdal, Trøndelag and Nordland, the day will start a little gray with periods of rain. Precipitation will eventually move north to Troms and Finnmark on Friday.
In the far north of the country, the weather was glorious today, and it will probably continue, estimates the meteorologist.
– At 4 p.m. today, Bardufoss measured 27.5 degrees.
– In the far north of the country, the weather will continue with the high temperatures they are currently experiencing. Troms and Finnmark recorded the highest temperatures today, and it could soon be so tomorrow as well.
Great fire hazard
Despite the fact that New Year’s Eve is the big day of the bonfire, it may be a good idea to leave the games at home.
In several parts of the country, a total ban on open fires has been put in place, while the Meteorological Institute has issued yellow and orange danger warnings for wildfires in almost all of Norway.
– You should always follow local recommendations regarding the risk of fires and bonfires. We have also issued a forest fire warning for several regions of the country, says Vågane.
– Good weather this weekend
Southerners will also be able to enjoy the sun this weekend, says Vågane.
– In the south, we are facing a weekend of rather nice weather, and it seems that they are entering a longer period of good weather and high temperatures.
The weather will also improve for those in southwestern Norway and central Norway.
– Eventually we will also see an improvement further north, Møre and Romsdal and Trøndelag seem to have better weather over the weekend.
In Nordland, the rainy weather will unfortunately stay for a while.
– But in Nordland, the rain will linger a bit, and Saturday may be a bit wet and gray there.
– Above normal
Vågane says June has been much warmer this year than last in large parts of the country.
– In Bergen it was 2.5 degrees above normal in June, in Oslo just over 3, while in Trondheim it was 2.
– Bodø was about normal, same with Tromsø, but they had a rather cool start to the month.
