Complete confusion: – Out of nowhere

The case concerns the Ny Gardervei development project in Romerike.

In order to make the center of Fetsund more accessible, it was decided to build a new road between Støvin and the center of Fetsund.

The road was completed on June 12, 2020, but its real name has long been an unanswered question, writes Romerikes Blad. According to the newspaper, the road is listed under three different names respectively on the yellow pages, the Mapping Authority and on the sign along approximately 1.3 kilometers.

Kjell Gjære (75) lives near the new road section, who has been involved in the project and describes himself as a local patriot.

– I ended up stomping up there. During development, the road was called Nye Gardervei, which is understandable as a project name, but I think it should be given a better name, he told Dagbladet.

Supports male-no names

– Has no sense

However, when he searched on norgeskart.no, he got a surprise.

– The road was suddenly called Karlsrudveien, completely out of nowhere, he said.

Karlsrudveien is also on the eastern side of Glomma, according to Gjære.

– And it is not true that there should be two Karlsrudveier in the municipality of Lillestrøm.

Gjære therefore contacted the Mapping Authority, and soon after the name of the road section disappeared from the map, he says.

A little later, a sign appeared along the road with “Nye Gardervei”, he said.

– I think that’s a bad name. How long is a road new? asks the septuagenarian.

am suspicious

Then “it got worse”, and he wrote to the municipality and asked for a decision, says Gjære. However, he never received a response, he said.

According to Gjære, the municipality also never found an answer to its submitted name proposal: Støvinveien.

– The new road first runs between Støvingårdene and a side road is already called Støvinåsveien, so I think it’s a viable proposition, he says.

Gjære tells Romerikes Blad that he suspects a naming decision was never made for the road, so it doesn’t really have a name.

– Did not reach the goal

And his suspicions turn out to be justified, writes the newspaper.

– No, no formal decision has been taken here, confirms Jane Aastad Alvestad, Head of Surveying and Management Section in Lillestrøm Municipality, Romerikes Blad.

She adds that none of the names mentioned have been approved in the Central City Name Register. As there is no one with an address directly connected to the road, this has not been prioritized by the municipality so far.

– We are considering various alternatives which we have not accepted, says Aastad Alvestad.

– Where did the collision occur?

Gjære tells Dagbladet that he understands that the name of the road has not been prioritized, but also thinks it is strange that the municipality cannot give it a name.

– Even huts located far away in Hutaheiti without road connection must have a postal address, he says and adds:

– Another important point is that addresses are used as location descriptions for accidents, for example. If two cars collide there, where did the collision occur?

– What do you think of the fact that the name does not seem to be a priority?

– I guess it overflowed. At the same time, it was very important when they were changing street names in connection with the municipal merger, so I feel like it’s culturally significant. It is then strange that it is ignored now. The municipality has worked hard to create this road, but it is clearly not important enough to have a name.
