Croatia and Morocco kicked off the World Cup in Qatar with a 0-0 draw against each other. Now both teams will end the World Cup battling for third place. For some, it may be the second podium in a row, and for others a historic result.

The Croatian national team at the World Cup in Qatar won only once in regular time. In the group, they beat Canada 4-1 and drew twice: 0-0 with Morocco and Belgium. In knockout stage Zlatko Dalić’s team first faced Japan. In regular game time there was a 1:1 draw, but the Croatians were more accurate in the series penalty kicks. It was the same in the quarter-final against Brazil, where the score was 0-0 after 90 minutes. Extra time, in turn, brought one goal each for both teams, and Croatia again won on penalties. The semi-final was not so good as Argentina proved too strong for Dalić’s side and won 3–0.

The Moroccan national team in Qatar has also lost only once. In the group, they drew with Croatia 0-0, won 2-0 with Belgium and 2-1 with Canada. The Moroccans started the group stage with a victory over Spain after a penalty shootout, although the score was 0-0 in regulation time. In the quarter-finals, Walid Regragui’s team again caused a sensation by beating Portugal 1-0. In the semi-finals, France proved too strong for them, who won 2-0.

The group game was the only game between the two teams in history. Croatia kept the ball longer with 65% possession. The Moroccans managed eight shots, two more than Croatia, but both teams scored just twice on target. The only yellow card was given to Moroccan Safyan Amrabat.

The previous meeting between the two teams was refereed by Argentinian Fernando Rapallini, and this time the main referee will be Qatari Abdulrahman Al-Jassim.

Qatar’s World Cup third-place match is scheduled for Saturday, December 17 at 4:00 p.m. at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha.
