On the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, in Whistler, the first two series of training took place before the competition of the world junior championships in show jumping. While we rely on Jan Habdas the most, his young colleague surprised us in training.
The Polish junior ski jumping team flew to Whistler with Jan Habdas on the team – one of the favorites for the medal and the leader of the Whites and Reds. He recently scored his first overall World Cup points and is now on his way to becoming a figurehead for our team in Canada. In early training, however, he was only eclipsed by 16-year-old Kacper Tomasiak.
In the first practice round, he jumped 103 meters (one meter closer than the normal hill size) and only lost to Finland’s Vilho Palosaari (105 meters). The following three Biało-Czerwoni also did very well – Habdas finished the competition in fourth place (99 m), Marcin Wróbel finished seventh (95 m), Klemens Joniak opened the second ten (94.5 m) and Wiktor Szozda was ranked in the middle of third place (91.5 meters).
In the second training, two problems did not change – again Palosaari was the best (100.5 m) and Tomasiak was again the best of the Poles (95 m, fourth place). Joniak (95m) came in seventh and Habdas (94m) closed the top ten. This time Wróbel was ranked 19th and Szozda (90.5m, 21st place) turned out to be the second weakest of the White-Reds.
Another practice is scheduled for Wednesday. The competition for the medals of the individual competition will take place on the night of Thursday to Friday (it will start exactly at midnight Polish time).
