On the last day of the World Figure Skating Championships held in Japan, the pairs competition was settled. Americans Madison Chock and Evan Bates reached gold.
After the rhythmic dances, five duets counted for the podium. Madison Chock and Evan Bates were in the lead after a clear round. The second position was occupied by this year’s European champions – Charlene Guinard and Marco Fabbri, followed by Piper Gilles and Paul Poirer from Canada. Britain’s Lilah Fear/Lewis Gibson and Canada’s Laurence Fournier Beaudry/Nikolaj Soerensen suffered a slight loss on the podium, and it was between these duos that a fight for the trophy could be expected.
However, there were no changes in the top three. In the free program, another fantastic show was presented by Madison Chock and Evan Bates. The bronze medalists from last year’s championship were delighted with their technique, earning by far the highest score (134.07). Even Madison Chock’s fall in the latter part of the show didn’t stop them. In total, the American pair scored 226.01 points.
The Americans achieved gold, and the second step of the podium was held by the Italians – Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri, presenting the audience with a beautiful and moving dance, which gave them a score of 131.64 points. Piper Giller and Paul Poirier also missed the medal. The romantic and technically excellent race allowed them to score 130.54 points for this segment and enjoy the bronze medals of the World Championships.
