FOOTBALL\\\ Beautiful bad beginnings – this is how Canadian footballers will remember the World Cup match against Croatia, which they lost 1:4. They have no chance of making the playoffs.
* Croatia – Canada 4:1 (2:1)
0-1 – Alphonso Davies (2), 1-1 – Andrej Kramaric (36), 2-1 – Marko Livaja (44), 3-1 – Andrej Kramaric (70), 4-1 – Lovro Majer (90+4) ) )
It started unexpectedly; Already in the second minute, the lead for the Maple Leaf team was given by Alphonso Davies with a nice header. The Bayern Munich player went down in history forever, as it was the first goal in Canadian World Cup history.
The initiative belonged to the North American team for about half an hour. Later, the Croats took control of the game and responded with four goals.
Andrej Kramaric equalized in the 36th minute thanks to a fine pass from Ivan Perisic. Just before the break, Croatia led with an accurate shot from outside Marko Livaja’s penalty area.
In the second half, the advantage still belonged to the Balkan team. The Canadians were not even close to the equalizing goal, and in addition they conceded two others. In the 70th minute, Kramaric scored again, which again was played perfectly by Perisic.
Kamal Miller made a fatal error in injury time and as a result, two Croats edged the Canadian goalkeeper. Mislav Orsic passed to Lovro Majer, who had no problem putting the ball in the net.
Before the last lap of Group F, the situation is very interesting. Croatia and Morocco have four points each, having beaten Belgium 2-0 against all odds hours earlier. The Red Devils have three points and Canada has zero.
On Thursday, Morocco will face Canada and Croatia will face Belgium. A draw is enough for the African team to qualify for the 1/8 finals. There is therefore a good chance that one of the medalists from the previous World Cup will be absent during the knockout stage. Four years ago, Croatia were second and Belgium third. (PORRIDGE)
