Huawei – Latest news – NRK

On Friday, the Skallelv fishing association visited Skallelva to plan new measures for next year’s humpback salmon season and review concrete plans for testing and implementing AI technology in the river. On the trip were representatives from Huawei Norway, the Berlevåg Hunters and Fishermen Association, Troll Systems and technology provider Otte.

These actors have already used artificial intelligence (AI) to distinguish humpback salmon from wild salmon in Kongsfjordelva and Storelva in Berlevåg.

The technology has been proven to be 100% secure. In 2023, 5,762 humpback salmon were removed from Kongsfjordelva using the KI system.

– It is very motivating when committed people like these come to contribute and share their experiences in AI and river management, says Lars-Martin Randin, leader of the Skallelv Fishing Association.

The Skallelv fishing association now hopes to be able to introduce AI solutions into its own river to make work easier and save wild salmon. In 2023, more than 10,000 humpback salmon were removed from Skallelva using a hand trap, a process that required hundreds of hours of volunteer labor.

– We hope that KI can save volunteers a lot of work and at the same time ensure that as many wild salmon as possible are released into the river intact, says Randin.

This is what Huawei Norway writes in a press release to NRK.
