Iga Świątek will play the third round of the prestigious WTA 1000 tournament on hard courts in Indian Wells. On Saturday evening, the Polish tennis player met another opponent in the Californian competition.

In Saturday’s day session, Iga Świątek began defending her BNP Paribas Open title and 1000 ranking points. The 21-year-old Pole gave American Claire Liu no chance, winning decisively 6-0, 6-1. After a few hours, the current world ranking leader met another opponent.

On Monday, Bianca Andreescu (WTA 36) will face Świątek. The Canadian, like the Pole, has a title in Indian Wells, which she won in 2019. During this season, she also triumphed at the US Open Grand Slam, which is her biggest success in her career. .

In the first round of the BNP Paribas Open 2023, Andreescu, seeded 32nd, received a bye. On Saturday, she faced the award-winning wild card Peyton Stearns (WTA 126) and prevailed with the American 4: 6, 6: 4, 6: 3. It was not an easy duel, but the country’s representative of the maple leaf has found its way to victory. In the second set, she was better with a break. In contrast, in Game 3, Stearns only held serve once and was unable to hit back.

Thus, Monday at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden will take place a duel between the two champions of the BNP Paribas Open tournament. This will be the second meeting between Świątek and Andreescu. Last year, the Pole won 7:6(2), 6:0 in the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 clay event in Rome, where she went on to claim the title.

Świątek will of course be the favorite for the third round game in Indian Wells. The exact time of her duel with the Canadian will be known on Sunday, when Monday’s game plan is revealed. Canal+ Sport will broadcast the event. Live text coverage on the WP SportoweFakty portal.
