– It’s nice to face challenges and overcome them. It wasn’t an easy first match, but I’m glad I stayed strong and closed out the first set, said the 22-year-old tennis player.
During the post-match press conference, she emphasized that she had remained in the rhythm of the match thanks to the Warsaw tournament, which ended with her victory on July 30, but that this did not been easy for her after the time zone change.
– I played in Warsaw two weeks ago, but then I changed continents – the player from Raszynia recalls.
Świątek won the first meeting of the competition for the 30th time in a row. This season he has already won 48 matches.
In the 1/8 finals, the Polish tennis player will face another Czech seed number 14, Karolina Muchova. Świątek, 22, last met her on June 10 in the Roland Garros Grand Slam final and won in three sets after a very close match.
– We have to be ready for the next match and expect that anything can happen because tennis can be quite unpredictable. Maybe a player is having a bad day. At the same time, the latter can play the best tennis of her life – Świątek emphasized.
If she advances to the quarter-finals, she will maintain her position as world leader for another week.
The Polish woman’s clash with Muchova is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
