Incredible thriller in Miami! Surprising defeat of the Czech

The very first day of the tournament in Miami (WTA 1000) there was an incredible thrill. In the match between Camila Giorgi and Kaia Kanepi, each of the three sets ended in a tie-break. Unexpectedly, Linda Fruhvirtova was eliminated.

From Indian Wells, tennis players moved to Miami, where the next WTA 1000 tournament began. Camila Giorgi (WTA 44) and Kaia Kanepi (WTA 57) fought an incredible battle. The Italian won 7:6(4), 6:7(4), 7:6(4) after three hours and 37 minutes. In the whole match, she served 11 aces, eight less than her opponent. Giorgi made 14 double faults and Kanepi made seven. Both players had 10 break points and four break points each. They scored 135 points each.

Giorgi had at least one break advantage in every set. In the first, she led 5:2 and had two set plays, one each in the ninth and 12th game. In turn, in the tie-break, she launched the hunt. From 0 to 3, she scored seven of her eight straight points. In the second, Kanepi raised from 2:4 and led in the third game. In it, the Italian led 5-0 to lose another five games. Along the way, she wasted two match points, one each in the ninth and tenth games. In the tie-break, Giorgi crushed the resistance of his opponent and will meet Victoria Azarenka in the second round.

The surprise is the elimination of Linda Fruhvirtova (WTA 50), who lost 2:6, 6:4, 4:6 against Katherine Sebov (WTA 172). The meeting lasted two hours and nine minutes. The 17-year-old Czech committed 13 double faults. The Canadian used eight of 12 break points. Fruhvirtova reached the fourth round in Miami last year. Sebov’s next opponent will be Jessica Pegula.

Elise Mertens (WTA 39) defeated Alycia Parks (WTA 56) 6-1, 6-4. In 91 minutes, the Belgian defended three break points and used four of nine break chances. She scored 21 of 28 on her first serve. She will face Daria Kasatkina in the second round.

Marta Kostiuk (WTA 38) won 6:3, 6:2 with Elisabetta Cocciaretto (WTA 49). In the match, which lasted 77 minutes, the Ukrainian scored 30 out of 36 points on her first serve. She canceled three break points and used three of her four break chances. Tereza Martincova (WTA 113) recovered from 4-6, 1-3 to defeat Tamara Korpatsch (WTA 87) 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Julia Putintseva (WTA 43) lost 6:7(4), 2:6 to Rebecca Marino (WTA 83). Kazaszka created no chance to break. The Canadian used two of the 10 break points. She served 10 aces and scored 29 of 36 on her first serve. Marino’s next opponent will be Coco Gauff.

The first opponent was Jelena Rybakina, who won the title in Indian Wells on Sunday. The Wimbledon champion will face Anna Kalinska (WTA 64), who came from 1-3 up in the first set and defeated Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva (WTA 171) 6-4, 6-2. Mirjam Björklund (WTA 149) beat Jasmine Paolini (WTA 71) 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. The Swede from the third set is reborn with 1:3, 15-40.

Xiyu Wang (WTA 58) defeated Brenda Fruhvirtov (WTA 142) 6-0, 7-5. The Chinese led 6-0, 3-0 to lose three games in a row. She ensured her promotion by breaking her rival in the 12th game of the second set. Irina-Camelia Begu (WTA 34) won 6-2, 7-5 against Alexandra Eala (WTA 219). The Romanian made up for his losses in both sets. In the first 0:2, she won six games in a row. The second batch provided great emotions. Begu was down 5-1 to turn the tide after saving five set points.
