Policy: – It was a very unpredictable and dramatic day, says Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre (Ap). NRK.
On Sunday morning, he met with Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt (Ap), Defense Minister Bjørn Arild Gram (Sp) and Justice Minister Emilie Enger Mehl (Sp) to discuss the situation in Russia.
The situation was tense throughout Saturday, but in the evening it was learned that Wagner’s boss, Yevgeny Prigozhin, had reached an agreement and, in exchange for a promise of amnesty, had asked his mercenaries to turn around. He himself set sail for Belarus.
Støre claims that the situation in Norway has not been affected by what happened and that it has not been relevant to increase security in border areas.
On Sunday afternoon, he will meet Nordic prime ministers and the Canadian prime minister for a summit in Iceland, scheduled well before Saturday’s events.
