Johansen and Fjeld Andersen won the IBU Cup
Marthe Kråkstad Johansen and Aleksander Fjeld Andersen cheered on Norway in the women’s and men’s joint starts of the IBU Biathlon Cup in Canada on Tuesday.
It was a double victory for Norway in the men’s race when Martin Uldal secured second place behind teammate Andersen. There was a gap of 15.1 seconds between the two Norwegians. Andersen pulled off a miss and earned his first IBU Cup victory of the season. Uldal had to go to the penalty round twice.
Johan-Olav Botn took sixth place, while Filip Fjeld Andersen finished in ninth place. Vebjørn Sørum finished two places behind.
With a miss, Johansen took victory in the women’s competition 12 seconds ahead of Germany’s Mareike Braun. The German stayed out of the penalty lap, but couldn’t keep up with Johansen on the track in Canada.
With that, Johansen took his third victory this season.
Emilie Ågheim Kalkenberg took fifth with five misses, while Maren Kirkeeide finished in 8th place, she also had to skip the penalty lap five times. Karoline Erdal followed in 11th place, while Jenny Enodd was number 17.
Wednesday, there is a sprint in the program in Canmore. There will also be a chase start and a mixed relay later in the week. (HAVE)
