The company said this in a post Friday morning.

Bacher will be employed by the company until May 31 next year, but he will step down as director in a week.

He has worked in the company for 30 years, including more than eight as group management. Bacher has served as CFO for two years.

– After almost 30 years of exciting challenges at Equinor, it is the right time to turn to new tasks outside the company. I am grateful for the interesting missions that the company has entrusted to me over the years, says Lars Christian Bacher in a press release.

Platform and foreign stopover manager

The outgoing director was previously, among other things, responsible for international operations at Equinor.

He also served as platform manager on the Norne and Stafjord fields on the Norwegian continental shelf.

Bacher led the merger work of Norsk Hydro and Equinor’s offshore facilities and served as national director of the company’s operations in Canada until September 2012.

After Bacher’s departure, Svein Skeie takes over as interim CFO. Skeie has worked at Equinor since 1996. Since then, he has held several leadership positions in finance, business development and economic analysis.

Bjørn Asle Teige is a director of the Equinor group.

I didn’t get the best job

Bjørn Asle Teige is a union representative for the Safe group at Equinor.

– I’m a little bit surprised. At the same time, there has been internal competition to rise to the top of the company, but there is only room for one. Those who weren’t selected are probably a little disappointed, Teige believes.

Earlier this fall, it was announced that Anders Opedal would take over as CEO on November 2, following the departure of Eldar Sætre. Lars Christian Bacher was in the final race and was among the strongest candidates for the top job.

Teige gives Bacher a good word as she leaves the company.

– He held the financial position when there were problems, with low prices and difficult conditions. In that sense, he’s done a good job of keeping the company afloat. I have a good impression of the work he has done, says Teige.

According to Teige, the union representatives had quite close contact with Bacher, both as CFO and in his previous role.

– We had a lot to do with him in the past. We have always had an orderly and good relationship, he says.
