Magda Linette and Bernarda Pera will not play the quarter-finals of the WTA 1000 hard-court competition in Montreal. In the second round doubles match, which was interrupted by rain, the Pole and the American were beaten by Ludmila Kiczenok and Jelena Ostapenko.
On Wednesday, Magda Linette and Bernarda Pera entered the doubles category from the reserve list and won against the pair of Nadia Kiczenok and Alycia Parks. In Thursday’s second round match, Ukrainian Ludmiła Kichenok (Nadia’s sister) and Latvian Elena Ostapenko stood in their way.
Both pairs played in waves in the premiere. First, Kiczenok and Ostapenko won two games. Then came the response from Linette and Pera, who made it 3-2. The Ukrainian-Latvian doubles team then caught up, but the last three matches went to the Poznań tennis player and her partner.
Ostapenko and Kichenok reacted to the failure of the first version. In the second set, they never lost their serve. The number six pair had their chances in every service game of Polish and American players. In the end, she won five in a row 1-2 and closed the set with confidence.

Since there was a draw after two games, a super tie-break was necessary. In this match, Kichenok and Ostapenko led 5-1 at the first change of sides. Linette and Pera made up two points before the match was interrupted due to rain.
After a few hours, the ladies returned to the field to end the game. Kichenok and Ostapenko scored two match points and won on the second occasion. They finally won 3-6, 6-2, 10-8 and thanks to that they will play the quarter-finals of the doubles of the National Bank Open 2023.
For Linette, it’s the end of her performance in Montreal. Previously, our representative played unsuccessfully in singles, where she was eliminated in the first round (more information here). The 31-year-old Poznań will now travel to Cincinnati, where the next WTA 1000 event will take place.
